Grandma's Apple Pie ŕ la JJ
This recipe originates with my maternal grandmother how originates from Northern Germany. My mother used to bake these for us and, even though I like the original version, I made a few changes to the recipe. The ingredients are calculated for a 18 cm round cake tin, which will serve six.

Ingredients
100 g of butter or margarine
100 g of sugar
100 g of (cake) flour
2 large eggs
2 large apples (for instance Golden Delicious)
30 ml of liqueur, preferably something like Amaretto
Some cardamom, vanilla and cinnamon

Method
Peel the apples and cut them into parts. Make shallow, longitudinal cuts along the outside of the apple parts.
Put the flour, margarine, butter, some cardamom seeds and a bit of vanilla in a mixing bowl. Mix them and add the eggs and liqueur. Keep mixing until the ingredients are well mixed.
Pre-heat the oven for some five minutes at 250C. Use some butter or oil on the cake tin and add some flour to prevent the cake from sticking too much to the tin.
Spoon the dough into the tin, press the apple parts in a star like pattern, cuts radiating out ward. Sprinkle liberally with cinnamon, the top of the cake should be completely covered.
Cook in the oven at 200C until done. In my micro-wave oven this takes some 40 minutes. You can easily check whether it is done by sticking in a wooden saté stick, or a knitting needle. The cake is ready when the mixture doesn't stick to the needle anymore.

Other Suggestions
Grandma's original recipe doesn't file cardamom, liqueur or cinnamon. However, when the cake is ready, the top is coated with peach jelly and powdered sugar. This makes the whole cake a bit sweeter.
